When I first saw them, I literally did a double-take. And I really had just watched Alice in Wonderland, blue caterpillar and all.

You could put some in a Mason jar with some mallow stems and leaves, and perhaps a tiny little hookah, raise some to adulthood, and solve the mystery once and for all!
